Four years ago, after a grueling lawsuit against a male-dominated employer that OTFS had waged battle with for more than two decades, OTFS finally retired. That occupation immersed OTFS in an environment with people struggling with a myriad of life challenges much as a result of their lack of self love. Emotionally drained and angry, OTFS returned to painting as a way to restore and replenish. OTFS started with hand painted gift bags and everyone loved them. OTFS's sister says OTFS has always been an artist, and while OTFS has not truly embraced that loving description, we both agree that OTFS has always been an advocate for children at risk.
In September 2009, with the impending recognition of yet another World AIDS Day looming, insight from OTFS's previous occupation, life, and the staggering statistics of how STI’s are touching so many women and girls, OTFS had a brainstorm and was able to marry both OTFS's passion for advocacy and painting.
On The Flip Side was born.
It is an Advocacy Card line that raises ‘social consciousness through art’; born out of real-life experiences and societal challenges of our time. My cards are whimsical and unique and deal with self-esteem, self-respect, and women’s sexual health issues. It is a way of opening dialogue; potentially saving lives without preaching or judgment.
OTFS believes that a 21-year-old should not have to live with HIV because there was no one to talk to; no open, non-judgmental communication. Having lived with the searing pain of a loved ones betrayal we, individually and socially, choose not to discuss the potentially lingering effects of betrayal in the form of exposure to an STI.
Our motto is “My Health My Responsibility”.
~No matter who I love; It’s me I LOVE♥.~
